THE PLANS
ENJOYING THE MOMENT
Reed and sit
Some projects are truly special.
One day, I came home from a work trip to find a drawing on my desk—left by my 6-year-old daughter. It wasn’t just any drawing; it was a complete design package, complete with a Bill of Materials, component sketches, and assembly drawings. At the top, she had written a simple yet heartfelt description: “Me and you to Reed and sit.”
I was blown away. I knew right then that we had to bring her design to life. That weekend, we headed into the shop, and by Sunday, we had built ourselves a bench to “Reed and sit.” Though I wasn’t the first to share the seat with her—her sister claimed that honor—it quickly became a cherished part of our home. Years later, it’s still in use.
I can only hope she treasures it as much in the future as she did in that moment. If she does, then it was all more than worth it
Fun Story:
I showed it to Head of operation of a contractor I work with and he keeps an eye on her graduation date. She seems to have a knack, but we will see if she takes after her dad.
